Colt Agent 38 Special Serial Numbers
My brother is dealing with his very Ill Father in law.they took his guns out of the house today as he is in the hospital and it isn't looking good for him to return. Neither one of them know anything about guns so I went over. Nothing of real interest but he did have a very mint Colt Agent.I took a couple of pics with cell phone and applied a little clp(you can see little residual in pics).he has the manual and they think the box is somewhere at the house.

As far as I can tell this thing has been sitting in a drawer for at least 40 years.what can you guys tell me about this model? Back in 1950 Colt began building guns using the new aluminum alloys. Use only standard load.38 Special ammo. In 1973 Colt changed most of their short barrel guns to use a heavy, shrouded ejector rod barrel, replacing the older 'skinny barrel' exposed ejector rod like your gun. Like all Colt revolvers, the Agent was a very high quality revolver, and was noted for superior accuracy and fit/finish. You can look up the year yours was made at Colt and here. Note, in the mid 1960's Colt started to add letters to the serial number. The 60's Cobra and Agent should have the letters 'LW' on the end of the serial number, but many did not..
